The Agilent HC-C18(2) 4.6 x 150 mm, 5 µm (part number 588915-902) is a reversed-phase analytical HPLC column with an HC (high-carbon) C18 bonded phase. It is designed for routine, economical reversed-phase separations where conventional 5 µm particle performance is acceptable; the HC variant provides higher retention for more complex samples due to a higher carbon load. The column is intended for standard HPLC analyses on conventional stainless-steel hardware within the manufacturer-specified temperature, pressure and pH limits.

Key Features:

  • Separation mode: Reversed-phase (RP)
  • Phase/Chemistry: HC‑C18(2) (C18), endcapped
  • Dimensions: 4.6 mm ID × 150 mm length
  • Particle size/type: 5 µm, fully porous
  • Pore size: 170 Å
  • Carbon load: 17%
  • Pressure rating / Temp / pH: 400 bar max; 60 °C max; pH range 2–9

Advantages:

  • Economical choice for routine or simple HPLC separations as stated by the manufacturer
  • Higher retention versus moderate-carbon C18s due to a 17% carbon load, useful for more retentive separations
  • Endcapped C18 phase helps reduce peak tailing for many analytes
  • Compatible with conventional HPLC hardware and robust operating limits (400 bar, pH 2–9, 60 °C) for typical analytical workflows
